.

It stands for Dual Inline Memory Module (computer RAM).
The DIMM sockey holds your computer's memory. Why would
you want to get rid of it ???

A DIMM socket is used for memory.

This DIMM (Dual In-line Memory Module) socket is for the DDR II
(Double Data Rate) SDRAM (Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory)
main memory technology. This main memory technology will replace the
cur-rent DDR SDRAM that uses the 184 position socket.

You don't want to remove the socket, it is on the motherboard for a
good reason. Memory is one of the most important components and if
you decide to add memory then you will want that DIMM socket.
