Diminished drive capacity after Vista

I loaded Vista on a Maxtor 250 gig drive after creating five 47 gig
partitions.
Then I deleted them all to load XP Pro instead. (I changed my mind...)
Now I only see 130 gig when I get to the partition screen in XP.

I used the MaxBlast software... it reports 250 gb.
I did the FULL FORMAT feature to overwrite all sectors.

Vista still sees 250, but XP only sees 130.
I reloaded Vista on a single partition (250 gb), then tried XP again but I
still only get 130.

I did the MaxBlast again to clean the disk, but I still only see 130 with XP.

Mobo is new, and cpu is 3.06. Bios sees 250 gb.

Any suggestions?

What Service Pack level?
How long since you visited Windows Update?

Hi,

With XP, you need a version that at least has SP1a installed to get more
than 130Gb out of large drives. 48-bit LBA was not included in the original
release.
