I downloaded a copy of a large avi music video file
(approx 630 mb). The 1st problem was that it wouldnt
play on my computer on media player or anything else.
The codecs and cracks i downloaded to help out didnt help.
BUT THE REAL PROBLEM IS...
now i want to delete the file but i am somehow not
allowed. An error message: 'cannot delete the
file.....It is being used by another person or program.'
comes up (this isnt true!) I have tried deleting it in
Safe mode but it wont delete.
.....is there any way i can delete it in dos, and how??

It would be best to boot into Safe Mode, search for the file,
then delete it.

First you need to discover what process/es is accessing the file and WHY.
Then terminate the offending process/es. www.sysiniternals.com has a free
utility, FileMon, that will reveal every process that is touching a file in
real time and allow you to selectively terminate those processes. Then you
should be able to delete the file.

Hi Kelvin,

Open the media player, remove the file from the playlist. Close the media
player, then delete the file.

Click on the file and wait a few seconds. Then you'll be able to delete it.

It's sloppily programmed file pre-parse handler for AVI, holds the file open
without FILE_SHARE_DELETE flag, for a while.
