Difficulty connecting to HP Scanjet 5p scanner.

Hi folk,

I have an old HP Scanjet 5p scanner.

It won't work unless I first turn off my computer - then turn on the scanner
- then turn on the computer again.

As my computer has been set up to stay on, it's a real nuisance having to
switch off first in order to scan.

The fact I can only get pix off my digital camera by going to My Computer>G
drive (in removable drives), rather than being able to use the camera wizard,
may be relevant?

A friend said you always have to turn computers off first when using
scanners, but this sounds odd, so I thought I would double check.

I'm pretty ignorant with computers, so if anyone is kind enough to reply to
this, fairly simple instructions would be much appreciated!

You might look on the www.hp.com website for updated
drivers, that are XP compatible.

The good news is that very much better, faster scanners are
now very reasonably priced. Consider updating the hardware.

You can try using "DeskScan 2.9 and Copy Utility" for 5p scanner.

This scanner is in the HP list for obsolete scanners and you may not be able
to get any help from them.
