Difficult to open pdf

A friend has the following problem. If he gets an email with a .pdf
attachment, clicking on the filename brings up a message saying program not
found. This infers that Acrobat is not present. However, it is. I checked
that it was OK by doing a repair, searched for some .pdfs on the computer
and tried to open one. The 'open with' box came up suggesting Acrobat 7x was
the one to use. Oking that opened the file. However, I still couldn't open
the attachment.

Questions.......

Why can't I open the attachment instead of getting the 'program not found'
sign.

Why does the 'open with' box come up, instead of just opening the file.

FYI the original version of Acrobat was 7.0.1 (I think) but I took it off
and installed 5.01.

You need to associate the file typr with the program. Go to Windows
Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types. In the "Registered File types"
scrool down until you find the .pdf file extension. Highlight the file type
and below you will see what program is associated to open this type of file.
If you do not see Adobe Acrobat click on the Change button and this will
present you with available programs to associate with. Select Adobe A and
make sure you check "Always use selected program to open this kind of file".
