Different memory readings

After reformatting my laptop hard drive and installing
Windows XP, I now get different memory readings from
various sources. In my bios, from Norton System
Information, and from the control panal system properties
readings, I get the correct amount of 512 MB of RAM. But
from the XP system information, and various third party
sources I only get half of that. What is up with that?

Those programs that only report half of your memory might
be reporting either your avialible memory or the amount
of used memory.
