Different footer in same section

I'm about to type a manual which has numerous sections. Within each section
there will be a footer indicating the issue number, issue 1. If a page
within the section has to be amended & re-issued to manual holders at a later
date, the footer on that particular page will need to read issue 2. How can
I set up footers in sections so that I can change the footers' content on one
page only (i.e. issue 2), without it affecting the footers in the rest of the
section (i.e. issue 1)?

Hi Anne,

You could do that via Next Page Section breaks before & after the changes, combined with unlinking the Section footer for the
amended and following Sections from the ones before them, then changing the issue number is the amended Section.

However, this will create problems when doing later edits if the natural page breaks don't stay the same - you'll end up with part
pages before (and possibly in) the edited Sections.

IMHO, you'd be better of using 'track changes' to highlight the substantive edits in each edition. Then, once a given edition has
been published, accept all the tracked changes before starting the edits for the next edition. That way, 'issue numbers' cease to be
a problem - the issue date is all you'll need.

Thanks macropod,

The thought of next page sections for each page is just too much for me to
contemplate! Sadly, the company requirement is for issue numbers and
revision numbers to be placed on the page in question. I've partially solved
the problem by using a "footnote" on each page for the issue & revision no's
& "whiting" out the actual footnote number! This is about as good as I can
achieve. With so many manuals & revision no's these days, maybe the people
who configure Word could add an extra feature with footers so that this
problem can be overcome.

Thanks once again for trying!

Hi Anne,

Interesting approach.

So that you don't have to white-out the footnote number, select any one of the footnote numbers in the document, then go to
Format|Style|Modify|Format|Font and check the 'hidden' option. Provided you've got the 'hidden text' display option checked
(Tools|Options|View) and the 'hidden text' pront option unchecked (Tools|Options|Print), you should get the results you're after.
