Differences in rendering of text box between PPT 2003 and 2007

Dave Jenkins

I have a simple text box that looks different in PPT 2003 editor than it does
in PPT 2007.

Go here: http://www.mediafire.com/?4jzmm0mh3q3 to get a .ppt file
containing a slide that contains the text box. On that slide, you'll also
find two links to images of what I see in the PPT 2007 editor, and how it
appears in the PPT 2003 editor.

In 2003, I have to turn word wrap OFF to keep the text string from getting
split; in 2007 word wrap is on, but the text does not split.

Everything about the text box formatting looks pretty much the same to me.
The display resolution on the 2003 system is 1280 x 800, and on 2007 it's
1280 x 1024 -- could that explain the difference? Unfortunately I don't
seem to be able to force them to be the same on the 2 PCs. I did lower the
display res on the 2007 system, and the text did not split.

I've seen mentions elsewhere about printer drivers, but am not quite sure
how to pursue that avenue.

Can anybody help me explain to my clients what's going on here, and perhaps
suggest a way to make sure that what they see in 2007 will be the same as on
2003?

Dave,

Not related but important:
1. Don't insert images copypasted from Photoshop, then there is an OLE
object created.
2. If you want to keep copypasting images from Photoshop... at least... make
them RGB.
Can anybody help me explain to my clients what's going on here,

(Same behaviour on PowerPoint 2003 & PowerPoint 2007)

That text box is corrupted... How? Probably... sure... Steve will explain it
to us...

Dont you use the "StarterSet Plus"? Probably you had to... (For *this*
(checking their name) on a 2007 you can use the "Selection Pane" to check
their names, for many other things you still need the "StarterSet Plus")

;-)

In StarterSet there is "Piggy" (Tell me about this object). If I use Piggy
to tell me what kind of object is the text box... she will tell it to me...

It is a "TextBox 10"

If I copy the text box... *all* the copies will be *also* "TextBox 10"...and
that's *not normal*

OK... then we will try 2 things

If I roundtrip the presentation... the multiple copied text boxes will have
a single name... "TextBox 5", "TextBox 6", "TextBox 7", "TextBox 8", etc.

Seems solved... but...

(The following behaviour only on PowerPoint 2003)

If I group *all* the copied textboxes and roundtrip the presentation...
*then* the multiple text will go to one only text box... and all the other
textboxes will have no text...

(On a PowerPoint 2007 roundtripping of the group makes the textboxes change
its original name to a new one... and all the text does not go at one
textbox... but at least once... I've got different results so I'll have to
check further)

Summary: Are you completely *sure* that this one is the only textbox with
a/that problem? *I* would be *very careful* if I had to use that file for a
client...

;-)

Very cordialmente

Enric
