Did updates, now XP Home just reboots after hits MUP.SYS, Fix?

Hi all,

The updater from Microsoft said that I should install 14
new updates. I went to Microsofts' website and started
the update process. After rebooting the only thing the
computer does now is reboot when it hits the MUP.SYS
file. What do I do to fix my computer again so it starts
properly?

thanks,
charles.......

Try to start to the Safe Mode and use the System Restore to uninstall
the upgrades. Then install them one by one to avoid problems.

Just reformat the C: drive when you do an install from the Windows
cd's.

Brian, what kind of installation media do you have? A retail CD or other
type? If other, what is it? Reason for asking: Directions for how to remove
and reinstall XP depends on what install media you have available. OEM
recovery/restore programs can work very differently than the retail or
generic OEM setup.

If you have a retail CD or generic OEM CD, see the following article:

In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP usually
wipes out everything that has been add after installation.

This is true for so-called OEM versions. True Windows versions can be
reinstalled without any data loss. All updates will be lost in any
case, but you can re-install this data from the Windows Update
website.
