Hi,
I have 2 PCs at home, both have modems, both running XP. one dials up
fine, every time, the other gives a username / password error every
time I try dial up. I've been through the settings several times,
they're both the same. any clues as to why one won't authenticate and
the other will?
Steven

The machine that can't dial up is one that I've just set the dialup up
on, I set up two dialup accounts to two diferent ISPs but both give the
username / password error.

Have you installed a specific modem driver for your modem. Modems are all subtly different (but 99.999999% the same). If I don't install my modem driver specifically then I either can't connect ot get disconnected with a few minutes.

Yes, I installed the drivers that came with the modem on CD.
This problem really has me stumped!
Steven.

Record a modem log file (in Device Manager - Modem Properties - Diagnostic tab). I've not ever seen this be useful.

I also set it to record a log, will bring the log tomorrow n attach it
to the message.

I tried to swap the modems,
The problem PC with the modem from the working PC still got the
username / password error.

Try swopping the modems in the two machines, that way you will

whether you have a software problem or a dodgey modem.... Also
check the
cable on the one causing athe problem sometimes if a cable has the
slightest
quality deficiency it'll cause errors. also cable lenght can effect
dialup!

You need to substitute %20 for spaces for html links. And it's unreadable from a web server.

Just record one attenpt (I noticed that it goes over at least 15 minutes) and attcach log.
