dialup software CanNot 'see' the modem.

I had a problem with my XP machine such that I had to use
my XP CD to 'repair' my installtion. Prior to repair, I
could get on the internet JUST FINE, the problem was that
unless the computer was *absolutely* finished loading up
everything, i'd get a generic host process error and have
to restart to get an internet connection. if you want
more details, just email!
Anyway, after the 'repair', I now get 2 errors on start
up, one is with a bs3.dll and then another .dll that
aren't loading.
More importantly, (I use a dial-up connection), my dial
up software cannot see the modem. Under 'printers and
modems', I can see my modem clear as day! I've gone so
far as to 'remove' and reinstall it! The OS sees it!!
However, the software asks me to install a modem. I even
tried AOL (yes, I was at wits end) and IT couldn't find
the modem.
Worst, I decided to set up my own network connection and
just enter the information by hand... and my new network
connections option for a DIAL UP connection is 'greyed'
out so I can't select it!!
I checked my Remote Procedure Access Call (or whatever),
and it's started...
HELP!

The BS3.dll appears to be spyware, so that might be part of the problem.

I've never seen a printers and modems folder, perhaps you mean printers and
faxes which is probably not what you want. Does the modem appear OK in
device manager?
