Dialogue boxes on the desktop

My dialogue boxes for the shortcuts on my desktop did not have any color in
their backgrounds -- they were transparant so that the wallpaper showed
through them....but somehow they now all have a dark blue color in them....so
I see distracting background colors behind all the text. This is awful....I
want them transparant again...what do I do?

Hi Julia,

Go to the Control Panel/System/Advanced tab, click on performance settings.
On the Visual Effects tab, enable the line to "use drop shadows for icon
labels on the desktop".
