thanks for rewsponding again Ed. i'm starting to think it
has something to do do with fonts. the boxes are getting
big to accomodate the large font sizes.
when i installed corel9 i was warned to back up my
c\windows\fonts file in case i wanted to remove the corel
fonts......so when i uninstalled corel i deleted the
contents of the c\windows\fonts folder and copied back
the original fonts. could this be causing a problem?
btw none of the affected programs were installed after
corel

Cheers

Ted

Hi, Ted.

Can't think of anything else right off, but you could check for monitor
driver updates.

Best wishes,

Ed

I'm not sure what the original post was but I can deduce
that you are concerned about some of the task bar and tool
bar sizes. These can easily be altered to serve your
purpose and you can change the font size and style within
any one of the windows or bars if you want. Simply right
click on your desktop then click properties then
appearance tab-advanced button and now you will see all
your bars displayed and a description of the text in them.
Such as Message text and Window text. Simply click on any
area to open the options below under the item line and to
the right of it. For instance click on message text and
now the font style will show and you can change it by
simply clicking the drop down list arrow and choosing what
you want. To the righ of the font line you will see size
and colour as well as the B for bold and teh slanted I for
slanting the font. Now click on the word normal and this
will not only open the font style and size but the item as
well which in this case is menu. To the right of that you
see size and if you click the little down arrow to the
righ of it you will see the width of the bar shrink. You
can also change the colour of the bar here. Click the item
drop down list arrow and you will see that you can change
your icon sizes here as well as it's horizontal and
vertical spacing and you can do so much more. Have fun.

thanks for the reply. the problem is with prompt or popup
windows within applications. the fonts and the box sizes
are tooo big, for example the connection alert box for
zap now doesn't fit on the page.
i had a look at where you recommended and i don't think i
can fix it from there. i think it may have something to
do with my hasty font removal. is there a way i can
restore the original xp home set of fonts? i don't have
an xp cd, it came pre-loaded on my pc.

Thanks for your help

Ted

It is certainly looking that way, Ted.

I do know that fonts can play very peculiar tricks with the OS. Can you
move say 25% to a to another folder, say on you dessktop, until you have
isolated the number in which the problem lies?

This was how I found a problem years ago when told a mystery font blow out
Access in Office 97.

Good luck,

Ed
BTW, I copied this message to your e-mail address in case you don't get back
to the NG.
