Dialer problem

A fresh install of WIN-2K plus SP3 plus IE-6.1. A minute
or two after I use the dialer to connect to the internet
and every thing is going well I get the following dialog
box.

SVCHOST.EXE generated an error and will be closed by
windows. You need to restart this program. At this point
the web pages are not responsive to some links and I
cannot get the status of the connection to disconnect my
phone line.

A side inconvenience: As soon as I install SP3 the
shutdown is delayed by 60 seconds with the dialog box
saving your settings but no visible disk action.

I appreciate any guidelines on these problems.

This is the symptom of the blaster worm.
To stop this action.
When you see the box to shut down.
Go to Start -> Run -> and type Shutdown -a
This will cancel the shutdown procedure.
You then need MS03-039 from Microsoft.
