Hi,

I had to reinstall my Windows Xp home, after problems due to a
spyware.

I did not really reinstall, but used the Restore Option on the Windows
XP Cdrom.

After that I could not even start my dial-up connections. I found out
in Microsoft's Knowledge Base that this was due to the fact that I had
allready installed Service Pack 1 before my Restore. Following the
directions on Microsoft's knowledge base I was able to bring back my
Dial-up connections.

Now I can dial, but 2 new problems arose:

1- I can connect only once. After the disconection I have to reboot
the computer to do a new connection ;

2- I can't due anything with the internet. I connect, but that is all.
netstat -rn tells me that the new routes created after the connection
have a metric of 50 and I just can't ping, telnet, nothing outside my
machine.

Some help would be great :))

Marko,

You Cannot Create a Network Connection After You Restore Windows XP

The usual fix is to re-install your current service pack ( SP1 or SP2 ).

This comes up occasionally too:

Dial-up Modem or PPPoE Option in New Connection Wizard Is Unavailable
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=320558

From a command window:
1) Ping www.yahoo.com.
2) Ping 66.94.230.33.
Report success / exact text of error messages.

Give LSP-Fix and WinsockXPFix <http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm>, or WinsockFix
<http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=257> a shot.

If XP SP2, Start - Run - "cmd". Type "netsh winsock reset catalog" into the
command window.

If no help yet, reset TCP/IP.

Start - Run - "cmd". Type "netsh int ip reset c:\netsh.txt" into the command
window.
