Dial up Password problem

I just set up XP on a new system. Everything is working well except for the dial up connection. I chose to set up my account manually and, after entering all the information required by the wizard, tried to sign-in to my ISP. When the connection failed to compleate I noticed that the dots in the Password field numbered 16, my password is only 8 characters. I deleated the password and manually re-entered the correct one, everything worked fine. The next time I tried to sign in the same problem occured. I have deleated and set up the Assount 2x and am still getting the same result. The only way I can connect is to re-enter my password manually each time I sign on. If I ask the Dial up program to remember my password it come up as 16 digits the next time I try to connect.

the number of dots for the password is a red-herring, Windows XP deliberately
shows the wrong number of dots, it's a password protection thing, so if someone
is trying to guess your password they don't know how many characters it is

I have had the same problem and this does not seem to be a "Red Herring" I cannot login until I manually enter my password
