I have been having trouble with my dial-up connection. When I connect, it
says that the IPX/SPX protocol isn't working. I messed around with it for
awhile and finally decided that I would reinstall Windows XP Home Edition.
The installation went alright, but near the end of it it said that the
software (it didn't specify) wasn't approved for compatability with the
Windows Logo or something like that. Well it installed Windows fine, but when
I make a new dial-up connection through my network places, it gave me the
error message 711. I figured out that that meant that something like "Remote
Connection something-or-other" (I'm not at my PC so I can't tell you exactly)
wasn't activated, and for some reason, it won't turn on. When I try and do
it manually through the Services tree it says Error 5: access is denied. I
tried searching for error 5 but nothing came up. If you have any advice to
offer on the subject, please help.

Nick,

An Error 5 is indeed "Access Denied". Are you trying to do that using an
administrative account?

Did you read this article about your Error 711:
