I have just bought a new laptop with windows xp and set
up my old internet account with supanet. however the
logon password that atomatically appears in the dial up
connection box is about 14 characters long ~(my password
is only 6 digits long!).

I have gone into Tools, Internet options, Connctions,
Settings. I have erased the password, retyped the correct
one and it still reverts back to this 14 character long
one. I even removed my dial up connection and set it up
again without success.

If I delete it completely from the Settings box then when
the dial up box appears it is blank. I have then entered
my password here and ticked the box saying save password
and even that doesn't work - as soon as it disconnects
and tries to reconnect, the 14 character password has
suddenly reappeared and of course my provider says
invalid password.

Am I being completely thick or what?

the reason you see 14 characters is because windows is
trying to secure your password so if someone was to try
and crack your password they will have no idea how many
characters are in it.
