Dial up problems connecting

Please help! - When I attempt to connect to Internet Dial-
up I get Error Code 691: Username and Password incorrect,
but my ISP Provider has confirmed that they are correct.
I notice that when I got to settings my password has got
incredibly long approx. 18 characters like this
**************** despite my real password only being 8
characters long?

Is there something that keeps changing my password?

I am having a number of problems with dial-up and that is
one of them. I cannot save my password because it is
doubled in length the next time I try to log on.

Hope someone out there has an idea!

XP always displays a stored password as 14 dots to hide its length. It
should still work.
