Recently each time I start up my pc the dial up connection
box opens and I can't use the pc until I have dialled up
to the internet. We did have a trojan virus recently but
norton anti virus removed that and current scans suggest
that there are no other virus' on the system.

any help at all would be very welcome.

Execute MSCONFIG from the start/run applet.
Open System.ini and look under the [ Boot ] section
The Shell entry for explorer should be

shell=Explorer.exe

If you have anything else after explorer.exe remove it. The entry should be
as above.
It could be a remnant of your trojan.

System.ini can be edited with notepad.

I had the same problem after installing IE 6.0 on both my
desktop and laptop pcs. After installing critical
updates/service packs from the Windows Update site, the
problem seems to have been eliminated. Hope this works for
you.
