Recently our DHCP server (one of 2 DCs in the domain) stopped servicing DHCP
requests. The DHCP log shows one line indicating authorization succeeded
followed by authorized (servicing) and exactly 60 minutes later the next line
in the log shows "Authorization failed". We had to manually "authorize" the
server again.
We are as yet unable to determine root cause. The latest Windows updates
were applied approx 4 hours earlier. The DHCP service was functioning during
those 4 hours without issue.
A tool (Diskeeper Adminstrator) was updated and the system was restarted an
hour before the failure but the DHCP service was up and running after that
restart.
Finanally a DNS scavenge was run 6 minutes before the authorization failure.
The event log indicates no records were scavenged.
These are the only known changes on the system up to the time the
authorization suddenly failed and we are unable to determine how the DHCP
service became "unauthorized". Please note the system has been running with
DHCP for approximately 10 months.
Its a Windows 2000 Standard Server - SP4 - IBM hardware.
I'm wondering if any one has had a similar experience and also if any one
has some suggestions as to possible causes.
Thanks!
