DHCP Problem

My wireless connection, despite having perfect quality (the router I'm using
is about 9 feet away), the connection sometimes just decides to
renegotiate... or whatever. It has to re-acquire an IP address. I don't
know why...

In the router's (Linksys) config, the client lease time is set to "0", which
means 1 day for it.

In my System Event Log, I see hundreds of these (maybe millions? ha ha)

Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network (from the
DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 00904B560862. The
following error occurred:
The semaphore timeout period has expired. . Your computer will continue to
try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.

And that was copied and pasted. What's with the extra period? Ha ha.

Anyway I'd like to figure out why it does this. There are hundreds of the
above error. But the re-aquire IP address proceedure only happens once or
twice a day, and the rest of the time my connection is perfect.

Things to try/troubleshoot:

1. Make sure power saving is turned off on the wireless adapter.
2. If #1 doesn't solve the issue, update the drivers for the wireless
adapter from the mftr.'s website.
3. If no joy, use Windows wireless manager rather than the adapter
management software or vice versa.
4. Assign a static IP address to the computer. You can use the Alternate
Configuration for automatic DHCP elsewhere if this is on a laptop that
travels to other locations.

My mind is out wandering this morning, but I seem to
remember a problem where if the wireless link finds
other links that are stronger, it will try to link to them
then end up back at yours again, but it causes it to
drop the link periodically. Hopefully, others who
remember that issue can fill it in better.
