Could This be a Ethernet Card Problem?

J

Jackson Browne

I've gotten these three errors in the Event Log a few times lately:

The IP address lease (IP address) for the Network Card with network
address (numbers and letters) has been denied by the DHCP server (IP
address) (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message)

The browser has forced an election on network \Device\NeBT_Tcpip
{long string of numbers and letters} because a master browser was
stopped.

Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network
(from the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address
(numbers and letter). The following error occurred:
The semaphore timeout period has expired. Your computer will continue
to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address
(DHCP)
server.

Thanks for any help.

Might be. Can you assign a static IP address successfully? Does it
eventually get the DHCP lease succcessfully?

Thanks for the read. I don't know how to assign a static IP address.
Let me provide a little more:

When my computer boots up I have a connection. I can do anything
(surf, email, and download) normally. So it has a connection for a
while. Then it just reboots with the abovementioned errors. I
subscribe to Charter. I figured since I only have three programs
installed and my drivers updated that it may be the card because the
connection is on all the time. I've also unhooked the CDROM because I
thought that may have been the problem. Thank you for anymore insight
you may provide.

The easiest way to find out if the NIC is at fault is to swap it out
with a known-working one. Since you can buy a new NIC for as little as
$10USD, this is a good troubleshooting step for you. The cd-rom drive
shouldn't have anything to do with this error.
