There have been many questions asked about the fact DHCP has stopped working.
So far there have been no real answers apart from have you checked every
thing as it must be your fault not XP's

I have XP Home version. About 3 weeks ago DHCP stopped working. One night it
was next afternoon is wasn't. The PC has Etrust with up to date patches. My
95b and 98Se PC's are working fine. All of which sit on a netcomm firewall /
hub /router cable / adsl broadband splitter.

I have powered off the XP PC removed lan cable and mains Power cable. Reset
the Netcomm box back to factory defaults plugged PC back into mains and lan.
Still no go. (again 98 & 95 PCs getting their DHCP ip's OK and talking to
internet OK)

Then I remvoed the lan card driver and reloaded from CD. Still DHCP not
working.

I tried assigning an manual IP from the range that the router assigns via
DHCP and removed this from the assignment list. I could now see all other
PC's on my lan, talk to the router and administrate it. Alas still could not
talk to the internet.

I have tried putting service pack 2 on still no go how ever it now tells me
I have issues..

Tried plugging into my Cable modem directly to the PC (yes I reset the MODEM
and the PC) still no go.

From this and the fact that others seem to be having the same issue with
DHCP. I think Microsoft XP has an issue. Unless there is something I have
missed ?

PS I am accessing this site from my PII 233 95b PC while my PIV 3.0Ghz is a
lame duck off the same equipment it was talking to for at least 2 months.

bohf:

Use Ethereal (packet sniffer) to see what is (not?) happening re: using the
DHCP protocol .

Im having a similar but different problem with DHCP but the problem lies
within the Cable Modem. You could try and having that tested.
