DHCP is disabled but TCPIP Properties dialog says it's enabled

I have a server running Win2K Server SP4. It's had 2 static IP addresses for
a couple years. Today when I opened up the TCP/IP Properties dialog box, the
"Obtain an IP address automatially" was checked. Without changing anything I
ran ipconfig, which reported correctly. That is it reported that DHCP was
disabled and that 2 IP addresses were assigned to this NIC. I want to add a
3rd IP address to the NIC so I went back to the GUI and manually entered all
the info...

-selected Use the following IP address and entered IP, mask & gateway
-manually entered DNS servers
-clicked Advanced and entered the 2 additional IP addresses
- OK'ed out of all the dialog boxes

After doing that, I opened the TCPIP Properties dialog again to verify that
my settings took and all settings had reverted to DHCP defaults (and my 2nd
& 3rd IP address did not show up in Advanced properties)

ipconfig still reported that DHCP was disabled and it also acknowleged that
a 3rd IP address had been added.

I rebooted but that did not solve anything. For some reason the GUI
interface is showing bogus info. In reality DHCP is definitely not enabled
(there is no DHCP server available on this network) and I can access the
server from it's static IP addresses.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Sounds like your network card info has gone kablooey; I've seen this happen
before. You might wanna remove all instances of the NIC itself from the
registry (HKLM\System\Control\current control set\network\.... and also
anywhere else under control\controlset X .

Then reinstall the NIC.

Of course, one must exercise caution when doing registry editing, and one
must make good backups first, mustn't one....
