Sorry for the multiple postings of my previous query - i
think my network problem may be causing a delay in
posting to the site, so I was unaware that the posting
had been successful.
Subsequent to my previous posting, I have removed machine
192.168.1.2 from the network (since Event Viewer was
reporting that it would not allow Machine A to claim its
IP address)
I then shut down the router and all machines on the
network and restarted them (except for 192.168.1.2).
This did eliminate error mesasge NetBT 4321, but now
Event Viewer is reporting DHCP Error 1002 instead.
The IP address lease 192.168.1.51 for the Network Card
with network address 000039CE3D10 has been denied by the
DHCP server 192.168.1.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK
message).
The symptoms described below are basically still the
same:
Other machines on the network cannot ping 192.168.1.51 by
IP address or by computer name.
192.168.1.51 can ping other machines on the network by IP
address but not by computer name.
This makes sense to me in light of the error message
above, since it appears the DHCP server thinks it did not
assign 192.168.1.51.
However, IPCONFIG on 192.168.1.51 does show this IP
address was leased to the machine.
I am not sure if this is relevant to this problem, but
about 15 minutes after starting up, I received a DCOM
error in Event Viewer:
The server {F3A614DC-ABE0-11D2-A441-00C04F795683} did not
register with DCOM within the required timeout.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Previous posting
Event viewer shows the following error message, which
appears to correspond to the time that I lose the ability
to ping one the machines on my network:
NetBT error 4321
"The name "PARALLAX :1d" could not be registered on
the Interface with IP address 192.168.1.51. The machine
with the IP address 192.168.1.2 did not allow the name to
be claimed by this machine."
PARALLAX is the workgroup to which all the PCs on the
network belong. 192.168.1.51 is the machine that I am no
longer able to ping after this error. 192.168.1.2 is the
only machine on the network with a fixed IP address.
When I search on this error, I find:

the Error and Event Log Messages or Knowledge Base
databases at this time. You can use the links in the
Support area to determine whether any additional
information might be available elsewhere
Any ideas?
