DHCP and Subnets

I have what should be a very simple question

If you have two subnets (a and b) with two seperate address pools (1 and 2), and you are using one DHCP server (the subnets have a bootp capable router to pass the DHCP requests), when the DHCP server gets a request from a computer on subnet b how does it know to provide an address from pool 2 and not from pool 1

Thanks!

From the subnet ID of the router port.
