In Device Manager I have duplicates of:

In IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers:
Intel(R) 82801EB Ultra ATA Storage Controllers

Primary IDE Channel
Secondary IDE Channel

In Processors:
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHZ

I suspect there should not be duplicates and they can be removed and then
they will be redetected/reinstalled on reboot or am I wrong when it comes to
XP. The one that I'm really concerned about removing is the processor. If I
remove it and let it be reinstalled, will it create any problems with other
integrated/non-integrated devices?

Also, how do I get rid of the stupid -- in the sig? Using IE/OE 6

Devices should only be removed if they appear in list grayed
out. This indicates that they were once present, but not in the
current hardware profile. Some motherboards have both SATA
and standard IDE controllers, which would account for why
you see two of them. The processors may be normal if your
PC has a Pentium-IV with Hyperthreading. To Windows the
single chip appears as two separate processors.

Thankyou for your response, I will leave them alone. The mobo is an Intel
D865GBFLK which does include SATA and the Intel 865G chip is a P4 w/HT.
