DEVICE MANAGER ICONS DISAPPEARED

My DEVICE MANAGER window (from CONTROL PANEL | SYSTEM PROPERTIES | HARDWARE)
is empty – all icons disappeared.
My NETWORK CONNECTIONS window is also empty.
I tried the SYSTEM RESTORE to go back to a safe point, but it is also
without any restore point.
When I tried to use the NETWORK SETUP WIZARD (from MY NETWORK PLACES), I got
an error message “CANNOT COMPLETE THE NETWORK SETUP WIZARD … THE WIZARD
CANNOT FIND YOUR NETWORK HARDWAREâ€.
I checked my security status using an external tool (Symantec) and I have no
security problems or virus.
I still have my internet connection (through cable) preserved. The computer
seems to work normally.
Does anybody know how do I fix this problem? What happened?
