Device Drivers for TSST DVD?

N

Nick Jacobs

Has anybody seen a device driver for a TSST DVD RW drive? It's in my Dell
Inspiron. All I get is the Error 38 about the drivers. That means I can't
even use the DVD rom drive.

This would be the last hurtle for me to stay on Vista RC1. :)

Thanks,
Nick

I have a mixture of TSST (Toshiba/Samsung) and Sony drives and haven't had
any problems. If you know the actual drive model number then go to Samsung
Support and look for firmware updates. There are no drivers anywhere to
download.
Update the firmware in XP if possible to prevent further problems.
Vista's own drivers should enable it to work.
The other thing to look at would be a) Device Manager does it show there?
and b) Computer Management/Disk Management - all that may be necessary is
for you to assign a drive letter to it.

The actual device is a TS-L432B DVD+/- notebook drive in a Dell Inspiron
6000.

I misread the number, the code is a code 39, device driver problem. I've
uninstalled/reinstalled the driver several times. The Device Manager sees
it but it's got the nice exclamation point on it.

The drive is not availabe in disk manager so I can't assign a letter to it.
As far as updating the firmware on the drive, I'm pretty sure I'm up to
date. I just did it probably a month ago so we should be ok there.
Besides, I can't pull the drive and put it in my desktop. :)
