There is a known issue with older devices such as parallel scanners and
printers. Even though the device may be installed and working the device
manager still tries to install it.
One fix is to go through the installation wizard and check the checkbox
"Don't prompt me again to install this software" and click "Finish". The
device will appear in the device manager under "Other devices" as a yellow ?
icon but won't bother you again.
I had to do this once with an old UMAX scanner when upgrading to XP from 98.
The scanner worked fine.
