Determining Permissions

J

John Renkar

I am joining a development team for a secured Access database. I have been
able to determine the users and groups they belong to. About 50%of the
current users are no longer with the company. Is there any way to determine
the permissions on objects in the database? People have moved to different
department but staill have access to objects from their old department. I
would like to generate a list so I can vewrify that each user has the proper
persmission with their supervisor.

Well this is interesting timing.

I just completed my latest Access MVP Add-in that does
exactly this and a couple of other things. It is called the
"Sandra Daigle Permissions Wizard". Among some other
things, it will do exactly what you require! It can create
real slick object permission reports by users, groups, or
both that are more intuitive than the built-in Documentor
(and a boat-load of less paper).

I sent the files to Sandra over the weekend and she is
reviewing them right now I believe. I'm hoping she
will consider posting the add-ins on her web site.

In the meantime try using the Documentor:

Interesting timing indeed! This is only my second time
visiting this newsgroup and this is exactly what I was
looking for!

I would be interested in trying your Add-In! Can you
direct me to the web-site you referenced?

Hi Jeff,

Second time only???
Jeff....Jeff....Jeff........we need to talk.

Sandra just posted the add-in on her site yesterday.
You can find the free add-in on MVP Sandra Daigle's site here:

http://www.daiglenet.com/msaccess.htm

(Right at the top)

There is one add-in that works for Access 97 and one that works
with Access 2000, 2002, and 2003. Make sure you download the
correct one for your Access version.

Inside the zip file is a very detailed Word document that explains
installation, usage, and a FAQ section. It would be a good idea
to review the document before playing around with it.
(I *strongly* suggest reading it before beginning!)
:)

Hope it helps in your projects!
