Determine which smtp address an email was sent to

I am trying ro figure out what, to me, should be the most simple thing. I
am in an organization with an Exchange server. I have multiple smtp
addresses set up (associated with my Active Directory account), all of which
the Exchange server answers for (ie (e-mail address removed), (e-mail address removed),
(e-mail address removed), etc.) When I receive an email, the only way I can tell which
address it was sent to is to right click the message in my inbox, select
options, then scroll through until I find the "To:" line.

I am trying to set up a rule to automatically move emails to a folder if
they contain a certain email address in the recipient, but this doesn't
work. It appears that Outlook/Exchange does not look at the actual "To:"
line in the headers, but only is able to see my default smtp address (and
name). There's got to be a way to do this...

Normal behavior. Your Exchange mailbox is a single object with multiple
e-mail addresses defined in it - one as the default/reply. When you open the
mail in Outlook, all inbound mail will show your display name as the
recipient. In OL2003 at least, you should be able to set up a rule that acts
on mail based on specific words in the Internet headers (note - internal
mail doesn't have headers, but that's probably not important to you). I
don't have an older version of Outlook to test with.

http://www.ivasoft.biz/whichaddress.shtml may be easier.

I would think you could set up a rule too, but it just doesn't work. There
is no rule to look at internet headers, on the "To:" section of the email,
which apparently doesn't actually look at the headers, because it just
doesn't work. It just seems so wierd to me that you would have to go to a
third party to make this work. It seems like such a basic and common thing
to want to do.

I'm looking at OL2003 now, and you can definitely create a new blank rule
that processes messages when they arrive, and looks for specific words in
the mail header, does X, and then choose 'stop processing more rules'.

It works for me. You haven't mentioned your version of Outlook, and as I
said, I don't have an older version to look at.

I somehow glossed over the message header option. That does work, thanks.
Now if Outlook only had a built in way to know which address it was sent to,
and then reply using that address. I will further into the third party tool
from ivasoft that you mentioned earlier.

For that, you'd need another Ivasoft one - ChooseFrom. It ain't really
Outlook so much as it is Exchange, this...

Glad you've got something working.
