can't send mail, address mangled to "=SMTP:"

I've been using Outlook to get mail from 3 accounts
all via POP & SMTP. Two are private accounts and
one is my work account. After some problems with
my works email, they told me to connect via
exchange server instead. Rather than need to connect
via VPN, I used an exchange proxy. This is working
great when it comes to receiving mail.

The strange thing that's happening, is that when I send
mail (from any of the 3 accounts), the address I send
to gets mangled and the mail doesn't arrive. For example
if I write an email and choose to send it from one of my
private accounts, even though they weren't changed, the
address would appear in Sent Items like this:

To: '=SMTP:[email protected]'

I imagine it's this =SMTP: that's stopping the mails from
being sent. This happens whether I send from my work
email account, or my two SMTP/POP private accounts.

If I fire up outlook express (which is also configured for
those two private accounts) the emails get out just fine.

Solution = turn off "Cached Exchange Mode". I
guess we don't use that on our exchange server.
