I have a new Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop with a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
card in it. I've read elsewhere that this card may come in both DDR
and GDDR flavors. I'm looking for a utility that will tell me what
I've actually got. It needs to run on Vista. Someone recommended
ATITool but it did not work on Vista.

The Nvidia control panel info tab will tell you the type of ram on the
card you have.

Well, thanks for making me aware of NVIDIA Control Panel.. Help..
System Information. That wasn't where one looked in Windows 2000 and
XP, so I didn't think of looking under Help. Actually I'm inclined to
say that's illogical; I don't need help, I need information. Well,
whatever, now I know.

That info doesn't say what type of video ram it is though. Only that
I've got 256MB dedicated video memory and 768MB shared system memory.

You're right, it doesn't say memory type. Thought it did for some reason. I
used to use Everest for that purpose but don't know if it runs on Vista.
