Destination net unreachable

I got a good one...

I just migrated Windows SBS 2000 to 2003. The previous
server was using ISA, but I choose not to use this as they
were getting a HW firewall. Thererfore, the Proxy
settings were taking out of the client machines. The new
DHCP server is providing the new IP information and
everyone is working great, except for the owner of the
company!

He is able to connect to the local network but as soon as
he tries to get out, the router responds with
a "Destination net unreachable" in the Ping reply. I
suspected the router, but why would everyone else be
working. I also rebooted the router several times and I
changed his IP address several times and that didn't work
either.

Is there something he could of installed that might have
reconfigured packets and the router is dropping them?
Does anybody have any other ideas other than getting a new
router? BTW... this is a Netopia R5300 router.

Help please,
@ndyP

The problem is probably that the owner's computer doesn't have a valid
default gateway address. To see, right click the local area network
connection and click Status | Support. If there's no default gateway,
that's the problem. If there is, try pinging it. It should be the IP
address of the router's LAN interface.

Hi,

In response to the reply at the bottom:
The computer does have a default gateway and I actually
tried using a dynamically assigned address, as well as an
address from the two different subnets here. All three
ipconfigs returned a default gateway and all three got a
Destination Net Unreachable.

Any other suggestions?

Please advise,
@ndyP

Is the default gateway the IP address of the router's LAN Interface?
Did you try pinging the default gateway, as I suggested? What was the
result?

Please open a command prompt window and run this command:

ipconfig /all >ipconfig.txt

Then copy and paste the contents of the ipconfig.txt file into a news
group reply. That will show the computer's route table, which is the
key to solving a problem like this.
