Destination Host Unreachable

Shasan

I don't know why this is happening.

"Destination Host Unreachable"
I get this error when I try to ping a local IP (my home
dsl router - 192.168.2.1 in my case).

ping 127.0.0.1 is fine.

When I go to the network control panel and try to 'repair'
the connection I get the following error:

<error>
The following steps of the repair operation failed:
Renewing the IP address

Please contact you neetwork administrator or ISP
</error>

needless to say, i AM the network administrator.

Please help with any ideas.
Cheers

A little more info,
1. Tried to release/renew ip using ipconfig /renew, got
this error:

<error>
An error occurred while renewing interface local area
connection. An operation was attempted on sometihing that
is not a socket
</error>

2. Used the Windows XP CD to 'install optional windows
components' and used it to remove the checkmark next to
Network Services. I'm assuming this uninstalled network
services. I then attempted to reinstall the Network
services but got the following error:

<error>
One or more services for the Simple TCP/IP Services
component took more than their allotted time to start.
Installation will continue, but services will not be
available until they have started completely.
</error>

This is all very frustrating indeed, specially since it
just stopped working from one reboot to another. Quite
silly. Please help.

The ping is failing because your computer is unable to get an IP
address from the router. Since your computer doesn't have an IP
address in the 192.168.2.x subnet, it can't reach a host (your router)
that does. Here are some tips that might help solve the problem:
