Despite virus software, Outlook sends out messages every 30 secs?

My Outlook XP is sending messages on its own from one of the three addresses
in my profile about every 30 seconds, although nothing shows in the Outbox.

I now use AVG virus software, although previously I used Norton 2003. I
also scan with SpyBot and AdAware.

I picked this up when using my notebook at home, as sending mail from the
work addresses doesn't work through my home ISP, so I see lots of failed
sends. I assume that at work the mails are being sent "successfully".

Any ideas?
 
What do you mean by "failed sends"? What indicator(s) do you have that
Outlook is sending out messages on its own?
