Desktops not all .bmp images?

When I look in the windows directory, I see only some of the files used for
the Desktop background. Where do all the others lurk?

BMP Files from %Systemroot% (WINDOWS folder)

BMP, JPG, GIF, JPE, DIB, PNG, HTM files from the following locations:
%Systemroot%\Web\Wallpaper
%USERPROFILE%\My Documents\My Pictures
%AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
%ProgramFiles%\Plus!\Themes

Two places may be accessed: Windows\web\wallpaper, and also your My
Pictures folder
Also you can select a .jpg picture, which will then be converted to a
bmp for use and stored in your own profile folder
