There is a bar on the left side of my desktop with Folder
tasks, other places and details dropdown menus. How do I
get rid of it. It hasn't always been there and I have
tried all kinds of desktop changes to get rid of it. I
have a picture set as my background and want to see the
whole thing. It is still there when I chose XP
backgrounds also.

Right-click on a blank area of the taskbar, and
select "properties". Check the box for "auto hide the
taskbar" and then click "okay". After that, the taskbar
will appear only when you mover your pointer near that
edge of the screen.

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

It's not the task bar on the left of the desktop. It's

wide blue background. right clicking in the area does
nothing.
