Steve

I have windows XP Home Edition. My desktop has turned to a "white"
background.

1. When I right click the desktop
2. Click on properties
3. Click the "Desktop" tab
4. The "Background" area is faded out and I cannot scroll up or down, nor
can I choose another background.
5. How do I unfreeze this area so that I can make changers to my desktop and
choose another background instead of the one that I already have.

I seem to be stuck. Any help will be desired. Thanks in advance

Open Regedit and navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
-and-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

Delete the values "Wallpaper" and "WallPaperStyle" in the right-pane.
Close Regedit

Be sure to follow-up with Malware cleanup.
