My desktop has been changed. A "system stopped message"
(it is recommending a spyware removal tool) in huge font.
It is now my desktop background. My display settings can
not be changed. Has anyone seen this before?

Please restart in safe mode, open Microsoft AntiSpyware, on the Scan Page >
choose Scan Options > Full System Scan > (check the boxes below) click "Run
