Spyware notice

there was a trojan on my computer. I received a message on my desktop that
said, " Your system is infected. System has been stopped due to a serious
malfunction, Spyware activity detected. It is recommended to use a spyware
removal tool to prevent data loss. Do not use the computer before all
spyware removed.

I got rid of the trojan and spyware problems. But the big black box with
the message is still on my desktop. How do I get rid of that?

I would recommend you use both your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware product to do
a thorough scan in safe mode to make sure all remnants of the Spyware and
Trojans are removed.

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx

In Microsoft AntiSpyware, on the scan page, choose scan options > full
system scan > (check all boxes below) click run scan now. Also submit
information about the spyware from Tools menu.

Sue - I believe that the message you saw was, in fact an ad for a purported
spyware removal application.

Have you tried right-clicking an empty area on your desktop, and choosing
the Windows XP Theme, and hitting Apply? I'm not sure this is precisely the
right fix--I believe what you are seeing is an HTML page set as your desktop
wallpaper--so you need to change that to whatever you'd prefer.

Please take a look at this web page:

It includes all necessary information to get rid of this problem, I hope.

I think it just sets the ad as a wallpaper--see Mikolaj's response--that's
the correct information about what this was and how to fully remove it, I
believe.
