Desktop & Windows XP

Hello Everyone,

I'm not sure if this is the right group to ask this question but it
seems like the closest match so please forgive me if I am in the wrong
place (and feel free to direct me to the right place).

A few years ago, I developed a replacement desktop for Windows 98 and
it worked well. It was lighter than Explorer and provided additional
functionality not present in that version of the desktop. I'm
currently in the process of rewriting the software and am thinking
about porting it to Windows 2000 and XP. However, I'm wondering if XP
and 2000 still use Explorer and/or is it even possible to replace the
default desktop in these versions of Windows?

Hi Anthony,

They still use explorer, but I have no idea if you can do what you're
asking. Keep in mind these are much more secure systems than Win9x, so are
going to be harder to make changes to the basic system.
