Desktop vs. Folder Background Context Menu

I use a small utility to save and restore the Desktop Icon layout from the
context menu brought up by right-clicking the desktop. Unfortunately it also
appears in the context menu which appears when right-clicking the background
of any folder window. The item is placed under the following Registry Key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
There is one item under this key named "igfxcui" which adds two items
("Graphics Properties" and "Graphics Options"--Intel graphics functions) to
the desktop menu but which do not appear in the folders. Can anyone please
tell me how to keep my icon-restore item in the desktop context menu but
remove it from the folders background right-click menu? Thanks in advance.

If you have an option to uninstall that utility, uninstall it.

Go to the following website and scroll down to Line 188, right side. click the "Add Save & Restore Desktop Layout to Menu" link to download the zip file. Unzip the file and double click the .vbs file to run the program. This will add the "Save Desktop icon layout" and "Restore Desktop Icon Layout" to the desktop context menu only.

Thank you very much for your reply. Kelly's VBS script installs the same
function which I had been using, and in the same location in the registry:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
My old utility had installed itself in the key for Folders. I moved it to
Directory\Background. So I'm still where I was--I begin to think there's no
easy way to remove this item from the window background context menu and keep
it on the desktop context menu only.

Something is different about Kelly's utility, I installed it some time ago and have never seen the right click options anywhere except the desktop.

The only thing I might suggest is to take a look at the original utility, in an editor, to see what changes it made and then try to reverse those changes.

Ronnie:

Thanks again for your reply. I have the .reg file that I used originally to
install this tweak. I went through it and removed from the registry
everything it added, then ran Kelly's script again, with the same result as
before--the items appear in the context menu for windows' backgrounds and at
the top of the File Menu in an Explorer window. I didn't actually remove and
replace the "Layout.dll" file from \Windows\System32 because I would have had
to go to some length to get Windows to allow me to do so, but the files look
identical, including the Modified Date. To make sure, I ran the script on
another computer and got the same result--the item pops up in all windows.

Thanks again. BTW, this dll file (Layout.dll) came from Microsoft and shows
a modified date in 2001.

Buck
