Desktop toolbars

Hi group,

Since Windows 2000, I've been using stand-alone additional toolbars that
were detached from the taskbar. For example, instead of having the
Quicklaunch toolbar next to the Start button where it is by default, I may
have moved it to be its own toolbar docked at the top of the desktop, while
having the taskbar remain at the bottom. Example image of XP desktop with
toolbars at the top:

Unless I've forgotten how to drag, it seems that the ability to create a
second toolbar independent of the taskbar is gone in Vista. Can anyone
confirm this? Or, does anyone have any suggestions for getting back the
functionality I'm used to, such as with some 3rd party app?

Thanks,

This is by design because a lot of people accidentally moved around the
toolbars without realising what they did or how to get them back. However
you can still have your QuickLaunch toolbar on the top.

1. Start Windows Explorer, not maximized so that you can still see the top
of the desktop
2. Navigate to the folder: %appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
3. Drag and drop the QuickLaunch folder to the top of the desktop

By the way this normally works with all folders and this also works in
previous versions of Windows.

Excellent. Thank you very much, Gabriel. I never knew that I could drag
directly out of Windows Explorer and create a toolbar like that. That's
much quicker than New Toolbar--Browse... over and over!
