Create new desktop toolbar

First let me say that I do have the Quick Launch Toolbar turned on.

I created a new toolbar called My Toolbar. I created this by right clicking
on the Desktop.....Taskbar and then selecting toolbars>new toolbar. I then
directed it to the folder that I have on my personal drive E:. It works fine
and sits in the taskbar next to the tray icons.

Whenever I reboot the machine this toolbar disappears and I have to create
it again. How can I make it reappear on boot? Is there something in the
registry that needs to be set??

the toolbar should be retained even after a reboot.

what is happening is that when you restart your windows explorer is crashing
*What a surprise in vista something crashing. lol*

thus your settings are not retained...

try LOGGING OFF and back on again to see if the toolbar is retained...

then if it is, do a restart and see again if it is retained

I followed your instructions. I logged off and back on it it still appears.
When I then reboot it is gone.
How can I fix this??

if you add something else from the available toolbars does that vanish too
after the reboot?

this is not exactly related to your question but I use a small fantastic
program
to do a multitude of things, including what you are trying to do..

its a shareware.. but in my opinion its worh every penny

I checked the Desktop toolbar and the media player toolbar. They where both
lost on reboot.

your windows explorer is crashing while you are shutting down, as I said
before.

this is 100% sure. I have seen this problem many times...

the only way is to start to find out what is running and making explorer to
crash..

perhaps disabling some startup programs, and explorer extensions using these
programs: (FREE)

download is on the bottom of the page for this, and run it as an
administrator by right clicking on the exe and selecting run as administraor

find the ones in PINK that are non microsft and remove the ones you dont
absolutly need

I kow that you feel 100% sure that explorer is crashing, but I feel pretty
confident that is not the case.
I have spent all evening shutting everything off that was running and left
only window core programs. Still the same problem.
I still feel that it is a setting in the registry.

that..

but why would they have changed? Anyway..

There is a security console for XP that may work for vista as well that has
that exact option..

you can try it.. perhaps you would need to run by right clicking on the exe
and selecting run as administrator..

I tried that per your instructions. I made the settings and they did a cold
boot.
It did not work. I then tried a reboot, and it still does not work.
Whenever I go back into the program they are checked again, by
themselves...the elves are at work!!

OK, I finally got it. Here is how it will work.

GO to run….GPEDIT.msc
User Configurations>Administrative Templates>Desktop>3rd one from the bottom
is Don’t save setting at exit. Double click on it and it opens a new window.
You have three choices:
Not Configured
Enabled
Disabled
When I opened it Enabled was checked. I set it to Disabled.
I rebooted a few times just to be sure and it works as I wanted it to.

Oh... do you had the policy editor...


well to tell you the truth this did pass my mind when I was saying that
explorer was crashing... BUT
I did not think it was something in the registry because why would it have
changed?

Anyway I am glad you fixed the problem

What version of vista do you have? because they are saying here that home
premium does not have gpedit.msc
