Desktop shortcuts to web sites

Hi. XP Pro (SP2) with IE 6.0--with all patches as of 9 April 2005.

full version number: 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158

I have various web site icons on my desktop. When I click on one of them IE
loads and takes me to that site. About a week ago all of these shortcuts
stopped working. Now if I click on one of them a printer dialog box appears.
My only choice is to select one of my printers and then click the OK button.
This prints out the web site that I was trying to go to.

No new programs loaded recently, only patches from MS. The original IE icon
on the desktop works fine--that's how I have to start to get to any site.
Once I'm running IE, my favorites work. It's only the shortcuts on the
desktop that have stopped working. BTW, I checked file
associations--everything is fine.

Any ideas?

TIA

John
