Desktop Shortcut

I've created icons on desktop linking me to cd player,
etc. After installing updates the icon links no longer
work. When I click on desktop link I get error message
that "link to shortcut is missing". I've deleted &
created new links with same outcome. Previously came
across info that microsoft was aware of problem and would
supply correction thru updates. I'm still waiting. If
anyone has come across fix please advise. thank you

Open Control Panel > Add/Remove programs and uninstall the Microsoft
WindowsUpdate hotfix "821557"
