desktop shortcut

i am unable to use some shortcuts on my desktop. this
message appears every time i click on icon "windows
cannnot access the specified device, path, or file. you
may not have the appropriate permission to access the
item." this is my home computer. i can access the
programs if i go through the "start-all programs" how can
i fix this.

Try to delete shortcut on your desktop and then make new one from the item of start menu-all programs
